Not in the context of Mother's day, but I like to pamper myself by getting a pedicure done once a month. I get it done in the first week of the month so that it is done and I don't forget. The rest of the month, my feet can look pretty.
I must say, my husband is a pretty good gift buyer but always has been. Of course, I am not subtle at all in my approach to getting what I want! If he doesn't listen, I ensure my older son does- he would never want to see his darling mother disappointed. I am presently working on a trip to Paris for my 40th in a couple of years time- do you think by telling him that's what I want every day from now till then will a) be too obvious and b) spoil the surprise?
I tried the instruction technique once. I sent my husband with the following instructions. Park on the roof top. Go down the escalator and the bag shop is directly to your right. As you walk in there are three rows of shelves on your left. The red bag is the only red bag on the top shelf. It is fifty dollars. I had to go back to the shop the next day and exchange it for the one I actually wanted.
Pmsl! That is so true! This year I did things a little differently. I didn't buy myself anything, then a few days ago a stressed out husband finally decided to ask me if there was something I wanted. So I told him the name of the perfume and calm was restored. To be fair, I think I have given him a complex when buying gifts because we have very different tastes.
